I think I might go through dry shampoo faster than underwear these days. I wish I could kiss whoever created it on the mouth honestly.

You would never believe this story I am about to tell. The other day, I was sitting in the salon chair, getting my hair done, and this middle-aged woman walks in. She tells my hair stylist that she is there to pick up some detangler as she was getting low on her product at home.
She then goes on to say how her hair has been feeling very oily lately and she feels like she has to wash more often. My stylist goes on to ask her what kind of dry shampoo she is using. Her response, you guys….will shock you.
“What is dry shampoo”?
she says. I could not keep my reaction and utter shock to myself. “You don’t use dry shampoo”?! I exclaimed (in the nicest, non-judgey way possible). What comes next is actually my favorite part of the story. She says, “Oh, I thought this stuff was for camping”?
I mean, she wasn’t wrong. I’m sure it was originally intended for a shower-less, lake hair, campfire smoke type situation. And then moms found out about it.
I am shook-eth that there are people out there that don’t use dry shampoo to survive, let alone know what it is. I bid my new friend at the salon adieu and left her with, “Your entire life is about to change.”
Top 5 Products That Will Change Your Life
I have obviously expressed my deep love and appreciation for dry shampoo, but with that said, they are not all created equal.
As a mom of two, a peloton freak, and a chick with about 20 inches of fake weave tied into my hair, it goes without saying I go as long as I can without having to wash my hair. For these reasons and many more, I feel as though I am qualified to give my opinion on the top 5 dry shampoos currently on the market.
1. amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo
Not only does it soak up any residual oils, but it is also going to leave your hair with some volume and bounce. The price for the size is hard to beat and the smell is refreshing and not over-powering. My favorite part is that it is loaded with vitamins AND it is talc-free.
- no white residue: the talc-free formula even leaves dark hair without a trace of white residue.
- absorbs oil + reduces odor: we ditched the standard aluminum starch for Rice Starch to absorb oil, making it a miracle worker in between wash days.
- restores volume: brings flat hair back to life + provides a voluminous ‘oomph’ without feeling gritty.
2. Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo:
A cult favorite, Drybar comes in a close second. Slightly pricier than the amicka brand, it is comparable in all other ways. I love to use this to freshen up before bed and my husband always comments about how good I smell!
3. Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo:
An amazing product if you are looking for more of a high-end option. I would also say this is a dry shampoo and texturizing spray in one. This can be used for someone who wants a bit more volume. It does come with a heftier price tag than most but it is an amazing product.
4. IGK FIRST CLASS Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo:
I have used this product for years and years and it will always be one of my favorites. I feel as though this item lasts me a lot longer than other brands, a little goes a long way. The major plus is that it is vegan and cruelty-free! It DOES leave a bit of a residue, but nothing a few shakes won’t disperse.
- This heavy-duty charcoal dry shampoo allows you to go even longer between washes, even after workouts.
- Detoxifying charcoal powder lifts dirt and build up while absorbing oil and sweat. Cooling, calming white tea powder calms scalp and strengthens hair follicles.
- Safe for all hair types and chemically treated hair
5. Batiste Dry Shampoo Spray :
Obviously, this tried and true brand had to round out my list. There are so many options for shade and scent which makes this option versatile. It’s an amazing product, I just have a problem keeping this outdated looking can on my countertop (it’s a me problem).
The Benefits
Of course, the “best” dry shampoo can vary depending on individual preferences, hair type, and specific needs. If you have never heard of dry shampoo, or had the opportunity to try it, I can confidently recommend trying one of my top five options.
Dry shampoo offers several benefits that make it a popular hair care product. Some of these benefits include: oil absorption, time-saving, volume boost, preservation of hair color and travel-friendly.
I have to say this but, while it can offer many benefits, it will not be a complete replacement for regular hair washing. Using it in excess can cause scalp sensitivity and buildup.
I hope you enjoyed my list of the Top 5 Dry Shampoos that every mama should know about!
