Setting the Scene:
Start by choosing a setting that reflects your personalities and the love you share. It could be a local park, your favorite spot in the house, or even a cozy corner with natural light.
Consider the backdrop, as it can add a touch of magic to your photos.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy! Last year I literally used a sheet and some dried rose petals and the pictures came out amazing.
Coordinate Your Outfits:
While SOME matching outfits are adorable, they don’t have to be identical. Choose a color scheme or theme that complements each other. Soft pinks, reds, or even neutral tones can create a timeless and cohesive look.

Timing is Everything:
Plan your photoshoot at a time when your little one is typically in good spirits. A well-rested and fed child is more likely to cooperate and enjoy the experience.
Typically golden hour, just before sunset, provides for the most flattering and warm natural light. (Not to be confused with the witching hour that follows close behind lol).
Bring Props:
Incorporate props that add a touch of Valentine’s Day charm!
Consider heart-shaped balloons, a cozy blanket, or even a basket of flowers. These props can create a visually appealing and thematic atmosphere for your photos.
TIP: Bring along some Valentine’s Day lollipops, to act as not only cute props but as a tasty treat for great cooperation from your littles!
Candid Moments:
While posed shots are lovely, some of the most memorable photos come from capturing candid moments.
Play, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. Let the camera capture the genuine love and connection between you and your little one.
Experiment with different poses that showcase the unique bond you share. Whether it’s a sweet forehead kiss, a playful tickle, or a gentle hug, let your poses reflect the love and joy you experience together.
Include Personal Touches:
Incorporate items that hold sentimental value, such as a favorite book you enjoy reading together or a special toy. These personal touches can make the photoshoot even more meaningful.
Currently, my 2.5 year-old has a “baby” that comes everywhere with us. By baby I mean a raggedy and snotty sloth that’s hair has been all picked off. You guessed it, he WILL be joining us for our Valentine’s day shoot this year 🙂
Choose the Right Photographer:
Select a photographer who specializes in family photography and understands the importance of capturing genuine moments. Look through their portfolio to ensure their style aligns with the vision you have for your Mommy and Me Valentine’s Day photoshoot.
OR, take the photos yourself! Set a timer and have natural and genuine fun at home in front of the camera. Some of my favorite photos of my kids and I have been taken on my iPhone.
Plan for After the Shoot:
Consider how you want to use the photos afterward. Whether it’s creating a scrapbook, framing prints for your home, or sharing them on social media, having a plan will help you savor and revisit these precious moments.
